Get Fired Up for Reading!

February is I Love To Read Month at Grainwood! Our kickoff was held at the All School Meeting on Thursday, January 30th with all students receiving a fortune cookie. "Get Fired Up!" is our theme for the month featuring a friendly dragon to go along with the Chinese New Year.  Each grade level will set a weekly reading minute goal. Each student who has met their weekly goal will be entered into a raffle.  On Monday, Feb. 11th and Monday, Feb. 25th two winners for each grade level will be chosen from the raffle to receive a $5 gift card to Barnes and Noble.

Other events throughout the month include:
  • Tues. Feb. 5th – Read around the fire
  •  Mon. Feb. 11th – Wear Red and Read  In China, red is a special color. Red is a symbol for fire, good fortune/luck, and joy.  Red is found everywhere during Chinese New Year and other holidays and family gatherings. Children receive a red envelope with money in it as a New Year’s gift.  Since red is a color of happiness, it is often worn at weddings, but never at funerals. Gong Hey Fat Choy!  Happy Chinese New Year!
