Pennies for Patients

Grainwood's Pennies for Patients drive was a success! Our school collected $1,721.85 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. With Leukemia being the most common form of cancer in children and young adults less than 20 years old, our school wanted to give to the youth in need. Thank you families, students and staff for giving to this service learning collection. A special congratulations to Mrs. Perkin's 5th grade class for collecting the most coins, totaling $376.38.

Artist in Residence

2nd Graders and adult participants met with Greg Preslika again this past February to view the three layouts he created from his brainstorming sessions with the students. Next, the whole school will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite layout. Preslika will design and print 3 bookmarks each displaying one layout. Students and staff will simply select the bookmark with their favorite layout. The layout with the most bookmarks gone will be the one Mark will paint in the Media Center later this month. The new space promises to inspire imagination and creativity in the Media Center, as well as provide a fun and educational art event. We are extremely grateful to the Laker Foundation for their support in funding this project!

The shoes need to be the kind of shoes a student could wear to a Phy Ed class. The shoes will be shipped around the world to kids and adults in need of footwear.
