From the Office of the Principal....

The past three Fridays at Grainwood have been very busy for our students and staff.  Three weeks ago, staff from the Minnesota School of Business, Globe University Campus in Shakopee worked with our students all day for our first ever Junior Achievement in a Day, or JA in Day, event.  We are very fortunate to have 30+ volunteers working with our students on economics, business and other social studies standards.

Two Fridays ago, Grainwood hosted its 3rd annual Environmental Education Day outside throughout our grounds, including areas at Memorial Park and Lakefront Park.  5 Naturalists from the Richardson Nature Center joined us for the day as our students studied trees, plants and seeds (kindergarten), habitats and life cycles (grade 1), prairie, wetland and forest biomes (grade 2), trees and animals (grade 3), and water (grade 4).  What a beautiful day for EE Day!

Fifth grade participated in their own event that day at Prior Lake High School.  All of the grade 5 students from around the district competed in the annual Grade 5 Track and Field Day.  Congratulations are extended to Marisa, Jordan, Megan and Isabella for having the fastest time in the medley relay, along with the GW boys team of Nick, Cade, Jarrod and Mason! Congrats also to the girls in Mrs. Perkin's room for winning the class shuttle run and to Mason for having the longest distance in the running long jump.  Way to go!

Last of all, this past Friday marked the first annual Grainwood Get-Up-and-Go Walk-a-thon.  What a stellar day to be outside and the main event at 1:45 PM was entertaining and successful.  To top things off, Grainwood met its goal of raising $7500.  With a few more sponsor dollars that arrived at school Friday morning, exactly $7503.30 was the final total raised for the event by the end of the day.  Talk about timing!  Pictures of the event are forthcoming...Here's a teaser!
