Thank you.
At our all school meeting this past Tuesday, representatives from Office Max joined our meeting and presented Mrs. Brenda Houck with their "A Day Made Better" award. Our school was identified, and Mrs. Houck nominated, for their national recognition of a local teacher. Throughout the summer, the Office Max in Savage collected school supply donations. In conjunction with their own commitment of other supplies (a new teacher chair, a Kindle Fire HD, a camera, etc.), Mrs. Houck was surprised at our all school meeting with over $2500 worth of school supplies and donations. What a great event! A huge THANK YOU to Office Max for their support for local education and to the community for their donations!
New this year will be a monthly communication about CARES at Grainwood. To begin with, each month at our all school meeting, The Grainwood CARES Heroes take time to educate and celebrate behavior. As a PBIS school (please see link on the right side for more info), Grainwood is committed to improving and sustaining building-wide behavioral expectations for students and staff. Last year, our focus was on bullying. We created a school definition and described what bullying is and what it is not through videos. This year, we will continue with our bully education theme with a focus on the "bystander," those witnessing the bullying, and implementing curricula at each grade level with an anti-bully theme. Students will take on a larger role in the video production for the all school meetings, beginning with grade 5's involvement in October. Grainwood has also launched an "Adopt-a-Hallway/or Bathroom" challenge as part of CARES. Congratulations second graders for being recognized yesterday for their hallway cleanliness! Below is the traveling trophy to be awarded monthly!
