PTC at Grainwood

Come join our first PTC Meeting next Tuesday night, September 3rd, from 6:30 - 8:00.  This is a wonderful way to be involved at Grainwood, ask questions, bring about change and connect with other Grainwood families.  The meetings are prompt, time sensitive and always incorporate a positive social and happy atmosphere.  Childcare is provided!

School Forms Due!

For the well-being of your child, please remember to turn in your updated emergency information as soon as possible.  If your child becomes ill or injured at school, this information, along with current telephone numbers, are critical for our health office and office staff!  If there are any legal proceedings regarding the welfare of your child, please make sure our office has a copy of the appropriate legal papers as well.

SPAN (Synergy/SPAN Parent Action Network)

SPAN (Synergy/SPAN Parent Action Network) is the Prior Lake/Savage chapter of Minnesota Council for the Gifted and Talented (www.mcgt.net ). SPAN hosts meetings throughout the school year with speakers and discussions focused on supporting gifted and talented children. Our first meeting will be on Monday October 7th at 7pm in the WestWood Media Center and will focus on our plans for the year as well as welcome speaker Erin Boltik to talk about Gifted 101…What every parent of a gifted child should know. One Last Summer Update!

Thank you Grainwood Families for attending Back-to-School Night last Wednesday.  What a success!  Grainwood teachers were excited to meet your children and now the learning can begin starting Monday.  (We always start by establishing routines and setting expectations!)  We are excited to announce that the Grainwood Office re-design is complete as of yesterday.  Here are a few final pictures showing the changes.  (Notice the window added to the new door to increase visibility of all persons entering the office...a safety measure!)  Also this month, crews were working on the exterior of the building completing a process known as tuck-pointing.  All exterior cracks in the brick were fixed by jack-hammering out old brick and adding new brick and mortal.  Unless you look very closely, it is hard to tell the new from the old.

Lastly, all exterior vents were cleaned, the main hallway painted (down past the lunchroom and the media center), "Grainwood Story Walls" was added to the mural in the media center (formally naming the project to all visitors) and 3 new Noon Supervisors were hired.  Just a heads up...next year is Grainwood's turn for more building improvements.  Stay tuned throughout the year as details are shared about the major construction and improvements coming our way during the summer of 2014!

Free PayPAMS Mobile App Available NOW!

The PayPAMS Mobile App for parents is now available for Android smart phones and will be available soon for iPhone.  This convenient app allows parents to make payments, view meal account balances, cafeteria purchases and the last three payments on account. Parents can also personalize the app by adding their children's pictures.

Parents can download the app by searching for "PayPAMS" under Google Play and logging in with the same user name and password as they do on PayPAMS.

Grainwood T-Shirts for Sale at Open House

Our Grainwood CARES t-shirts will be for sale at Back-to-School Night this Wednesday! The cost of the t-shirt is $5.00 and examples will be hanging in the gym at the spirit wear table. T-shirts will be on-sale for the entire school year until they are sold out.

Grainwood to Offer Breakfast in 13-14

New this year! We are pleased to offer a breakfast option for students at our school. Breakfast is available for $1.40 per meal. Breakfast menus will be posted on our website along with the daily lunch menus. As with lunch payments, we will provide the convenience of using a credit card to prepay for breakfast meals online using PayPams. Food Services now covers the $1.95 transaction fee for using PayPams. Parents may also pay by cash or check. Free or Reduced School Meals program recipients qualify for breakfast at no cost. Classroom assignments and Back-to-School night are coming soon.  We are excited to see new and returning students!  Please plan on attending Back-to-School night to see the school, meet your teacher and have your questions answered so you can be ready for a fantastic school year!

August 14th: Class assignment information will be mailed to your home
In the mailing will be numerous forms (as in years past).  Please take a moment to fill them out and return to your child's classroom teacher at Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, August 21 from 4:00-6:00 PM or the first day of school.
