Tonight's SPAN Meeting Postponed

Due to the predicted poor weather/driving conditions, we are postponing tonight's SPAN meeting to Th. Apr. 17 at 7pm in the WestWood Media Center.

The brain science regarding the development of executive functioning skills and the impact on learning for gifted kids and teens will be discussed. Participants will learn strategies to use at home and in the classroom to improve the ability of gifted children to regulate their emotions and behavior. Spring Testing

The third, fourth and fifth grade Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) online testing will begin in April.  Students are tested on their grade level proficiency in math and reading.  5th graders will also be tested in science.  2-5th graders will also participate in MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing.

Teachers are working with students to ensure they have the skills needed for these online tests.  To support your student during testing please encourage a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast.
We also ask that you avoid scheduling doctor or dentist appointments during testing dates.

Dates for testing are as follows:
April 7-11 Reading MCA (3-5th grade)
April 14-18 Reading and Math MCA (3rd - 5th grade)
April 21-25 Math MCA (3rd - 5th grade)
April 28-May 2 Science MCA (5th grade only)
May 5-9 MAP testing (2nd-5th grade)

Be aware that Thursday, April 24th is 'Take Your Child to Work Day.'  If this event is important to your family, please schedule a time for your child to visit your workplace sometime this summer (when it will not interfere with his/her schooling).

Specific testing days/times should be communicated to you by your child's teacher.  Feel free to contact the office or your child's teacher with any questions.
